Why Is Tamarind Harmful for Pets?
Tamarind pods release tartaric acid that mimics grape kidney toxicity, causing bloody diarrhea, extreme dehydration, acute renal failure, abdominal cramping, and collapse even from small amounts; high sugar worsens diarrhea. Seeds create additional gut obstructions. Primarily dangerous for dogs and birds; rare exposure but uniformly severe outcomes. Ban all forms including pastes or candies; emergency supportive care with IV fluids, anti-diarrheals, and dialysis offers best survival chance.
