Why Is Raw Potato Harmful for Pets?

Raw potatoes contain solanine, a glycoalkaloid toxin concentrated in green skin, sprouts, and eyes, which irritates the gut and nervous system in pets. Dogs and cats may experience vomiting, diarrhea, drooling, lethargy, tremors, and seizures from as little as 0.1% body weight. Cooking neutralizes it, but raw chunks or peels are dangerous. Store properly, discard green parts, and never feed raw. Vet treatment focuses on decontamination and symptom management.
