Why Is Large Amounts of Broccoli Harmful for Pets?
Excess broccoli floods pets with isothiocyanates and fiber, causing gas, bloating, vomiting, diarrhea, and potential thyroid interference from goitrogens. Dogs and cats handle small florets well, but large servings (over 10% of diet) irritate the gut and may lead to hypothyroidism long-term. Raw stems are toughest to digest. Limit to treats (under 10% calories), steam for safety, and watch for GI upset. Switch to vet-approved veggies if issues arise.
