Why Is Avocado Harmful for Pets?
Avocado contains persin, a fungicidal toxin concentrated in leaves, skin, pit, and flesh, which disrupts heart muscle and mucous membranes across species. Initial vomiting/diarrhea escalates to labored breathing, fluid lung buildup, mammary inflammation (birds), and death. Even guac traces dangerous. Dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, tortoises, reptiles, amphibians metabolize poorly. Discard fully; vet immediately for charcoal/fluids.
