Why Are Unripe Tomatoes Harmful for Pets?
Green tomatoes and tomato plant parts contain solanine and tomatine alkaloids that disrupt the nervous system, leading to lethargy, muscle cramps, weakness, drooling, GI upset, dilated pupils, and in severe cases seizures or heart irregularities. Ripe red fruit safe in moderation but vines/leaves remain toxic. Dogs, cats, and rabbits face risks from garden access. Administer activated charcoal at vet clinic, provide supportive fluids, and monitor neurologic status closely.
