Why Are Toxic Mushrooms Harmful for Pets?
Toxic mushrooms like Amanita species (death cap) contain amatoxins that destroy liver and kidney cells, leading to vomiting, bloody diarrhea, jaundice, seizures, coma, and death within 24-72 hours. Dogs forage them most often; even a few bites can kill. Over 200 species are poisonous, symptoms vary (e.g., muscarine causes drooling). Identify and remove yard mushrooms. Emergency vet care may include activated charcoal, IV fluids, and antidotes like silibinin.
